Hurry! A fantastic photography expedition in Verona is only open for another week. Experience the captivating retrospective celebrating the renowned French photographer Robert Doisneau, continuing until February 14th at the Palazzo della Gran Guardia in Verona. Curated by Gabriel Bauret, the exhibition offers a journey through Doisneau’s illustrious career via 135 monochrome images sourced exclusively from the Atelier Robert Doisneau in Montrouge, just south of Paris.
For over five decades, Montrouge served as the epicenter of Doisneau’s creative endeavors and archival work until his passing in 1994, leaving behind a rich legacy of nearly 450,000 negatives. Today, his daughters carry on his legacy from the same atelier, facilitating the widespread appreciation of his oeuvre across museums, festivals, and publications.
Highlighting the exhibit is the iconic “Le Baiser de l’Hôtel de Ville, Paris, 1950,” a timeless portrayal of a young couple sharing a tender moment in front of Paris City Hall. This renowned image, often hailed as one of the most reproduced worldwide, was a deliberate composition by Doisneau during a photo session for Life magazine. His intent was to capture a world of kindness and tenderness, reflecting his vision of an ideal reality.
In addition to the visual feast of Doisneau’s masterpieces, attendees can enjoy screenings from Clémentine Deroudille’s film ‘Robert Doisneau: Le Révolté du merveilleux’ and an insightful interview with curator Gabriel Bauret.
The exhibition operates from Sunday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with extended hours on Saturdays until 8:30 p.m., and closed on Mondays. Ticket prices vary: full price: € 12, concessions: € 10, schools: € 4. Family: adults € 10, children € 4.
