The Hostello: All The Amenities You Could Need

Rating: 9/10Address: Via Venti Settembre, 80, Verona – Google Maps
Price: Starting around $45 a nightAmenities: WiFi, Luggage Storage, Lockers, Private Bathroom, Laundry

We’re going to start off strong. When it comes to the best hostels in Verona, The Hostello is both appropriately named, and our #1 pick. It’s hard to find a better hostel setup than The Hostello not just in Verona, but anywhere really. First, there’s. a large variety of room to book, from 8 bed mixed dorms for the cheapest prices, to private rooms. And, they also have male and female specific dorms as well, which is great for solo travelers.

Besides the variety of rooms, the provided amenities are great also. With working spaces, laundry facilities, free high-speed wifi, several common spaces (including an outside garden to hang out in!), a shared kitchen, and more, it has everything that every kind of traveler would want in a hostel. Plus, The Hostello is NEW. Not that there’s anything wrong with a hostel that’s been around a while (in fact, they tend to be cheaper), but everything is nice, new, and in great condition here. It also has a very well decorated interior for a space with positive vibes that’s pleasant to hang out in when your feet are tired from walking around Verona all day!

We try and talk about the good and the bad of each hostel in Verona in this article, but the truth is that The Hostello doesn’t really have many downsides. The only one we can think of is that it’s maybe a little out of the way, being a 20 to 25 minute walk to the Verona Arena, which is the landmark we use for how close you are to everything here. But even that’s not bad, and it’s a nice walk! And speaking of walking, The Hostello even has free walking tours of Verona that are included in your stay. So overall, we cannot recommend choosing The Hostello as your hostel in Verona enough!

Stravagante Hostel & Rooms: A Stay for the Socially Conscious

Rating: 9/10Address: Via Gianattilio dalla Bona, 8, Verona – Google Maps
Price: Starting around $35 a nightAmenities: WiFi, Private Bathroom, Secure Access, Luggage Storage

A very, VERY close second, is Stravagante Hostel & Rooms. Stravagante is a modern hostel with several room options. They tens to focus on private rooms, but they also have a few smaller male and female specific dormitories with four and three beds in each respectively. All rooms have private bathrooms and hi-speed wifi. Stravagante is also only about a 20 to 25-minute walk to the Verona Arena, but coming from the south instead of the east.

There are a few things that we do with Stravagante Hostel & Rooms had however. A common area or co-working area would be nice. They do have a lounge area outside, but nowhere to really put a computer down and focus on work if that’s what’s needed. Laundry facilities for travelers are also unfortunately absent, which may or may not matter to you depending on the length of your stay and travels. Despite missing a couple amenities, there’s a big reason besides the nice rooms that Stravagante is definitely one of the best hostels in Verona though…

One of the things that really sets the Stravagante apart, is it’s “hidden” tavern/restaurant called Il Mangiabottoni. It’s less hidden now than it used to be (they now have a sign out front advertising it), but it’s a legitimately good restaurant with a 4.6 rating over hundreds of reviews on Google. And if that’s not enough to eat there, they have a very good cause as well. They work to break down social barriers between ability and disability in the workplace, and for that reason, the restaurant is managed by disabled and differently abled staff. Finally, they are part of the AIAS Verona Cooperative. In fact, the entire hostel is part of the cooperative, and providing a space to eliminate barriers to work for Veronas most fragile citizens. We can’t say enough good things about that.

Posada Hostel: The Best Budget Hostel in Verona

Rating: 7/10Address: Viale Andrea Palladio, 4, Verona – Google Maps
Price: Starting at $25 a nightAmenities: WiFi, Common Areas, Luggage Storage, Kitchen

The Posada Hostel is our number one pick for a budget hostel. It manages to find the right balance between amenities, and cost. And usually budget hostels are cheap for a very clear reason in our experience, but that isn’t the case at Hostel Posada. With free wi-fi throughout, and a desk in every room, it’s a decent place to get some work done while you travel as well. And while they don’t have free to use laundry machines, they do offer a laundry service. So for stays starting at $25 a night, we feel like that’s about the most we can ask for anyway.

Hostel Posada offers multiple types of rooms from four bed mixed dormitories to female only rooms with six beds, as well as private rooms. All rooms have their own private bathrooms for that individual room. And the rooms are all fairly modern with newer bedding and decorations. It’s located with 20-25 minutes walk from Piazza Bra and the center of Verona, and is actually just right around the corner from Stravagante Hostel, so it gives you a good opportunity to meet other travelers as well. The balance of budget while still managing to have nicer amenities is what puts the Posada Hostel as #3 on our list of best hostels in Verona.

Santa Chiara Youth Hostel Verona: Best Verona Youth Hostel

Garden View of the Verona Youth Hostel
Rating: 6/10Address: Via Santa Chiara, 10, Verona – Google Maps
Price: $30 a nightAmenities: WiFi, Common Areas, Luggage Storage

The Ostello della Gioventù di Verona, or Verona Youth Hostel in english, is a unique hostel in a pretty great location. Just across the Adige River from Città Antica, it’s just a 15 minute walk or so to the Verona Arena and Pizza Bra. It’s located in a historic building that traces it’s roots all the way back in Roman influences, and they have a cool section on their website that goes into the historic details.

History is great, but how is the hostel itself? Not bad, but certainly not a destination in itself like the previous two hostels on this list. This is very much what you think of when you think of traditional hostels for a European traveler. It has several male and female dormitories in both two and four bed configurations, as well as having private rooms available. There is a large public space to hang out in with TV and some amenities like WiFi throughout the hostel, and there’s an outdoor area as well. The stay is $30 a night, making it a pretty good hostel in Verona for affordability, perfect for younger travelers.

So the Verona Youth Hostel certainly isn’t the most glamorous, but do you really need that? After all, who wants to actually spend much time in their hostel while traveling. Saving some money on accommodations so that you can enjoy the beautiful City of Verona a bit more is certainly a wise choice for those traveling on a budget, and it’s close walking proximity to the main attractions in the historic center of Verona makes the Verona Youth Hostel a great option.

Protezione della Giovane: The Best Hostel in Verona for Female Travelers

An outside view of the Protezione della Giovane Hostel
Rating: 7.5/10Address: Via Pigna, 7, Verona – Google Maps
Price: $25 a nightAmenities: WiFi, Kitchen, Library, Garden

It goes without saying that solo-female travelers have a unique set of challenges in worrying about safety that other travelers may not worry about. So thankfully, the Protezione della Giovane Hostel (Protection of the Youth in english) exists. It’s the best hostel in Verona for solo female travelers hands down. First, it ONLY allows females to stay there, offering another level of safety over a traditional hostel with female-only dorms. Second, it’s a pretty decent hostel! It offers free WiFi, and several common areas including it’s own library, and a garden area to hang out in as well. It’s located in a palace from the 1700s, and rooms are all nice and comfortable and well-kept. They even have a deal with a caffe next door for discounted breakfasts while you’re staying there! And, it’s even located in Città Antica, near everything you want to see.

The Hostel is actually run by a non-profit volunteer association of the same name, and this is just one of their projects to protect female youth. They have an all-female staff, and are supported by the City of Verona itself. And since it’s a non-profit, that means every dollar you pay in staying, goes directly into either supporting the accommodations of the hostel for future female travelers, or into the greater non-profit to support women in need in the city of Verona. Plus, at $25 a night, it’s a very fair price for it’s accommodations regardless of the money doing more good downstream.

If you’re booking a female-specific hostel, make sure to read a quick news article on Safety Options for Female Travelers in Verona.
