Italy’s Labor Day, known as “Festa del Lavoro,” is an holiday deeply rooted in Italian culture all the way back to the late 1800’s. In Italy, the plight of the worker has always been a core theme, Labor Day symbolizes unity and solidarity with workers rights. It’s not just a day off for Italians, it’s a commitment to building an equitable country for everyone. And that’s why Italians get to take a whole month of vacation every year, and Americans are lucky to get 10 days!
And if you’re here today on vacation, you’re lucky enough to experience it! The city of Verona has opened up all public museums to the public either for free, or for a significantly reduced price, and you can even do a river tour between some of them!
You can combine your museum visits with a raft ride down the river, courtesy of Adige Rafting. You’ll have the opportunity to stop at and tour the Castelvecchio Museum, the Archaeological Museum at the Roman Theatre, and the Natural History Museum, accessible from designated stops along the river route.
The river excursion covers an 8.5 km stretch of the Adige River, starting from the new center for river sports at Chievo, adjacent to the cycle path, and concluding at Boschetto near the riding stables in the Galtarossa area. On Thursday, May 2nd, join the inauguration of the exhibition “Joan Miró on the pages of Derrière le miroir” at 6:30 p.m. at the Civic Library. Explore colorful and imaginative original lithographs by the Catalan painter, part of the ‘Libri e Rose’ 2024 literary event. Find the complete program on the Municipality of Verona’s website.
Until May 5th, access to the Courtyard and Juliet’s House will be through Teatro Nuovo in Piazzetta Navona, with the exit on Via Cappello. To visit Juliet’s House and access the balcony, online booking is available at museiverona.com.
Also until May 5th, in tandem with the restoration work on the monument and preparations for the opera season and additional performances, entrance to the Arena will be reduced to three euros. Tickets are available online, or at the ticket booth in front of the Arena.
