This weekend, May 25 & 26, 2024, is the 29th annual edition of “The Great International Challenge”. La Grande Sfida is an event put on by ASD La Grande Sfida every year. For those unfamiliar, this is an organization much like the United States’s “Special Olympics”, and has events for the differently abled citizens of Italy. Their website has this to say:
ASD The Great Challenge APS recognizes itself in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, of the United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities and pays its attention in particular to people who for any reason present human and social fragility.

It is a non-profit association of social utility which exclusively pursues social solidarity objectives in the sectors of social or socio-health assistance, training, amateur sport, the promotion of culture and art towards people disadvantaged due to physical, mental, economic and family conditions, having as its main aim that of promoting the inclusion of each person with human and social fragility in communities. and social fragility in communities.
This weekend is the big annual event in Verona, and you will find events all throughout the city in most public areas! The event schedule is as follows:

10:00am – 12:30pm and 3:30pm – 9:00pm hours — Differently Abled Artists Performances in the following areas: Piazza Bra, Via Mazzini, Via Capello, Piazza delle Erbe, Piazza Dante, Piazza Cortile Mercato Vecchio.
Artists Present: The chrysalis – The great challenge; C D E F 21; On the river; Andrea Speri; Singing while playing; Mirko and Angelica and the “Vivere la dance” group; INDIGO. Asd; The colorful wings of the dance; B-RU’S Blues Band; Altrocanto Choir; “Fragile souls” group; Massimo Rubulotta, Claudio Moro and Stefano Benini; Caterina and Francesca with the Tex Band – La Bottega dei Talenti; Hope Project; House of Ronit.

2:30pm — Parade through the streets of the centre
3:00pm — Piazza Bra – Sports and games with the presence of people with mental, physical and sensorial disabilities from various Italian and European cities and the involvement of city associations. As every year, sports tournaments and informal moments of meeting between citizens and the associations and services operating for disabled people in the area will be offered through the display of information material and works.
5:30pm — Awards ceremony
6:30pm — Ending Ceremony
