September 9th: Soave Wine Tasting Event at Castelvecchio

On Monday, September 9th, 2024, wine professionals and wine lovers can gather on the stunning terrace of Circolo Ufficiali inside Castelvecchio for an exclusive event celebrating Soave wine and its surrounding landscape – the latter recently recognized as an agricultural heritage of great significance by FAO – Food and Agricultural Organization. Tasting wine from about forty of the region’s top vineyards is possible.

Appuntamento Soave is a new wine tasting dedicated to the famous Soave wine of the Veneto region. It was born for Verona at a critical juncture in market trends, both in Italy and abroad, that appreciate fresh and flavorful white wines with low alcohol levels. The event will take place in Verona, a city with a very long history linked to the production of Soave wine.

This event is for both the press and industry experts, with a particular emphasis on the worlds of cuisine and sommelier, but it will also be open to the general public, enthusiasts and newcomers. After all, that wine is to celebrate pleasure and the joy of being together.

Participating Wineries: High end wineries taking part in the tasting will include Balestri Valda, Benini, Bertani, Bolla, Ca’ Rugate, Cadis1898, Camerani, Canoso, Carlo Alberto Negri, Casarotto, Cantina del Castello, Cantina di Monteforte, Coffele, Collis Veneto Wine Group, Corte Adami, Corte Mainente, Corte Moschina, Dal Cero, Fattori, Franchetto, Gianni Tessari, Gini, Guerrieri Rizzardi, Ilatium, Inama, La Cappuccina, Le Albare, Le Mandolare, Montetondo, Nardello, Portinari, Pra’, Roccolo Grassi, Santi, Suavia, T.E.S.S.A.R.I., Tenuta Sant’Antonio, Tirapelle, Vicentini, Villa Canestrari, Vitevis, and Zambon.

Event Schedule

11:00 AM: “Soave: From Freshness to Longevity” – AIS Seminar. More than forty Sommeliers from the Veneto Region will be the protagonists of this seminar, organized by AIS and strongly supported by the Soave Consortium. This Seminar confirms that the Soave wine needs continuous learning and training in order to understand the wine and the history behind each glass.

2:00 PM: “Soave Seven: From Freshness to Longevity” – Masterclass by Filippo Bartolotta. This will be an invitation-only masterclass on the different faces of Soave wine in a west-to-east journey through its calcareous and volcanic soils from a more youthful to an evolved vintage that has been able to put to evidence Soave’s extraordinary ability to evolve, giving a picture of the current quality level in the denomination.

4:00 PM – “Soave Identity: Between Landscape, Freshness, and Longevity” – Roundtable Discussion. Among the many distinguished speakers, it will also include Andrea Lonardi, Master of Wine, with his topic “The Future of Soave in the World,” Mons. Bruno Fasani, Prefetto della Biblioteca Capitolare di Verona, “The Vine as a Gift from God” Clelia Maria Puzzo of FAO “Soave: an Agricultural Heritage of Global Significance” Lorenzo Pasquini, Administration Manager at Château d’Yquem, and others. The discussion will be hosted by Luciano Ferraro, Deputy Editor of Corriere della Sera.

6:30 PM: Public Opening. Appuntamento Soave, on the most beautiful terrace in Verona, with the Adige River at its feet, will open its doors at 6:30 PM to wine experts and curious visitors. More than forty wineries will express all their skills with the best Soave versions, and guests will be able to taste several vintages to appreciate the many nuances of Additional Geographical Units. Short tastings of local produce will also be organized by the Strada del Vino Soave.
