Verona continues to attract couples seeking to get married in the iconic city of love, with a significant portion of its ceremonies being civil ceremonies. In 2023, out of 747 weddings held, 148 involved couples who weren’t residents of Verona, with 26% of them coming from outside Italy. This trend is bolstered by tourism initiatives like “Sposami a Verona” (which translates to “Marry me in Verona”), backed by the municipality of Verona, which allows couples to tie the knot in iconic locations such as Juliet’s house.
Non-Verona Resident Weddings
Among the couples celebrating their Union in the city of Verona, nearly 20% are not residents of the city. Notably, 38 couples from various countries like Germany, England, Belgium, France, the Vatican State, and the Principality of Monaco exchanged vows in Verona in 2023, with Germans comprising the largest group at 26.9%, followed by the British at 21.2%, and then the French with 7.7%.
Verona Resident Weddings
For couples where at least one partner resides in Verona, they constituted the majority of celebrations in 2023 at 58.4%, with others hailing from different Italian municipalities (13.6%) or residing abroad (5.1%). Among Verona residents, Romanians made up the largest portion at 25%, followed by Moldovans, Sri Lankans, and Moroccans.
Interestingly, couples with one partner in Verona and the other elsewhere showed a diverse mix of nationalities. Nigerian husbands accounted for 14.3%, while Russian and Brazilian wives comprised 10.9%, followed by various other nationalities like Albanian, Moroccan, Colombian, Dominican, Moldovan, and Nigerian.
