Vinitaly is a centerpiece event in the wine industry and as a premier wine event of the year, Vinitaly attracts top buyers from around the globe, showcasing the finest wines Italy has to offer. It takes place yearly in Verona, Italy. The 56th Vinitaly, which is scheduled to take from April 14 to 17, was presented by VeronaFiere on March 20 in the European Parliament. The wine show, which already has an established and impressive reputation, is set to exceed all expectations: 1200 top purchasers are anticipated, which a 20% more from 2022 and 70% more from last year.
VeronaFiere President Federico Bricolo emphasized, “This is the first presentation of Vinitaly that we are making at the European Parliament, which is the nerve center of EU policy. The objective is to raise awareness of Italian wine, which is being promoted internationally under the Vinitaly trade show brand.”
Of course, if you ask us, the whole world is already well aware of the excellence of Italian wine, but who are we to stand in the way of a good wine show?
Over 65 nations account for the majority of the global demand; but more than 140 countries are projected to send an additional 30,000 purchasers and wine industry workers to Vinitaly. With nearly 15% of all arrivals, the United States continues to be the country with the largest contingent of attendees. The next three most popular non-EU destinations are China, Canada, and the United Kingdom, together accounting for 23% of all arrivals. The largest percentage of top buyers at the macroregional level are found in North America and Europe (26% each), followed by Asia and Oceania (23%), Eastern Europe (13%), Central and South America (7%), and Africa (4%). In fact, 95% of all wine exports from Italy make it to one of these 65 nations.
The European Committee of Wine Companies’ secretary general, Ignacio Sánchez, was also present at the news conference and had this to say: “European wine is valued at 130 billion euros, with 3 million workers, a yearly tax contribution of 52 billion euros, and a survey we did with PwC that we are presenting today.”
“On the occasion of the first National Day of Made in Italy (April 15),” Maurizio Danese, CEO of VeronaFiere, shared, “we will present, together with the Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, the research ‘If you take wine away from Italy, a dip in the glass half empty.’ A study, carried out by the Uiv-Vinitaly Observatory and Prometeia, on the impact that the Belpaese would suffer in socio-economic, tourism, and identity terms from a hypothetical disappearance.
