Verona Hosts Free Open-Air Movie Festival

Starting tonight, from August 13th to September 14th, Verona will once again host its beloved open-air cinema event, organized by the Cultural Association L’Ippogrifo Produzioni, a local theatre & cinema arts organization in Verona. This year’s festival, promoted by the Decentralization and Culture departments in collaboration with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th Districts, and with the support of Amia, promises to be a must-attend occasion for cinema and culture enthusiasts.

Festival Locations and Screenings

The festival will take place across various neighborhoods in the city, showcasing a diverse selection of films from both Italian and international cinema. In the 1st District, screenings will be held at the Chiostro di San Bernardino, located at Stradone Provolo 28. The 2nd District will host the event at Corte Molon, via della Diga 17. In the 3rd District, screenings will be spread across multiple locations: the football pitch on via Mocenigo, the Natura playground on via Brunelleschi in the Stadio neighborhood, the La Girandola playground on via Bassone 36 in the Basson neighborhood, and the multipurpose platform at the intersection of via Faliero and via Maddalena in the Saval neighborhood. The 4th District will hold screenings at the playground on via Murari Brà, while the 6th District will take place at the Giardini Cantori Veronesi in Santa Croce.

Film Screening Schedule

The film schedule is pretty diverse, and really designed to cater to a wide audience. It kicks off on August 13th in the Catena neighborhood with “10 Giorni senza Mamma” (2019), a comedy directed by Alessandro Genovesi that humorously tackles the challenges of parenting.

On August 19th, Corte Molon will feature Buster Keaton’s classic, “The General” (1927), accompanied by live music from Maestro Federico Fuggini. The following day, August 20th, the Stadio district will screen the timeless cult favorite “Back to the Future” (1985).

On August 24th, the Cloister of San Bernardino will present “Si Muore solo da Vivi” (2020), directed by Verona’s own Alberto Rizzi. On August 31st, also at the Cloister of San Bernardino, the Italian comedy “Grazie Ragazzi” (2023) starring Antonio Albanese will be shown.

On September 2nd, at the Giardini Cantori Veronesi in Borgo Santa Croce, viewers can enjoy “The Portrait of the Duke” (2020), a period drama based on a true story. On September 4th, the animated film “Coco” (2017), a Disney/Pixar hit celebrating memory and family, will be screened at Parco Giochi Murari Brà.

The festival ends on September 14th in the Saval district with “Inside Out” (2023), a great childrens film about if emotions were real characters, so a perfect stop for a family on vacation.

More Details

All screenings will begin at 8:45 p.m., with seating available from 8:15 p.m. Admission is free on a first-come, first-served basis, with a capacity of 200 seats. In case of inclement weather, screenings will be moved indoors.
